About

The Professional Record Standards Body (PRSB) is a UK organization dedicated to developing and promoting standards for health and social care records. Its goal is to ensure that information shared across health and care systems is accurate, consistent, and meaningful to improve patient care and safety. By working closely with healthcare professionals, patients, and technology providers, the PRSB establishes evidence-based standards for recording and sharing information. These standards support interoperability, enabling seamless communication across different services and systems, and contribute to a more integrated and efficient healthcare system.

The Challenge?

NHS Digital needs to be able to update their codes to the Unified Test List (UTL) based on SNOMED CT coding systems for their Pathology Terminology Project and develop a process for creating code mapping to support future additions for the UTL as well as version management.

Pathology tests and results were using the discontinued Read Codes from the Pathology Bounded Code List (PBCL) .

How we Helped?

  • Our AI algorithm suggested results that had a 99.3% approval rate by the specialists with the remaining being manually created using our search functionality.
  • We generated both partial mapping and suggested mapping using an AI algorithm. The mappings for each code were reviewed by specialists using our user interface to capture the outcomes of the reviews, and their responses to the suggestions, with an option to search for additional codes not suggested by the algorithm.
  • Our advanced Manager created a report of the review outcomes so teams were able to action their data strategy
  • By modernising their codes, NHS Digital were able to maximise their data reliability and efficiency when using their pathology tests.
