MetadataWorks provides data cataloguing for innovators
Our data catalogue and expert support help the public sector harness the power of their data for good. We make data products FAIR - Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, saving time and resources and ultimately improving outcomes.
MetadataWorks was founded in 2019 by co-founders Adam and David Milward with a clear mission: to harness the power of public sector data for good. Guided by the principles of FAIR data—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—MetadataWorks is unlocking the full value of public data to advance research, policy, and society and is now the fastest growing network of public sector data in the UK.
Before launching MDW, Adam and David led a successful consultancy delivering data solutions to healthcare clients. Drawing from their experience—Adam in systems integration at IBM and David as a Senior Scientist at NATO’s NCIA and a PhD researcher at Oxford—they developed an open-source toolkit that improved data collaboration on major projects like the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre and the 100,000 Genomes Project.
Recognising the potential of this toolkit, they shifted to a product-focused model with seed investment in late 2019. This led to the creation of the UK’s leading data catalogue.
