What’s Happening?
On Wednesday 18th February, 12pm-1pm, Jyoti Rogers, Head of Operations at MetadataWorks is co-hosting a best practice webinar with Cathy Arnold, Head of Data Services at the University of Leeds for Women in Data. The pair will cover best practices in data access, using their work with Smart Data Research UK data hub, HASP, Healthy and Sustainable Places, as a foundational case study.
Jyoti and Cathy will take the audience through the development of the research catalogue built for the Healthy & Sustainable Places Data Service as part of the Smart Data Research (SDR) UK network. The catalogue enables researchers to look for datasets, check the metadata and make access requests, plus keep up to date on news, events and activity in the sector, facilitating improved understanding of the health and sustainability of places.
The project used the Five Safes Framework with an emphasis on transparency around metadata sharing and quick access to Tier 0 and 1 data. Cathy will cover an introduction to research data principles, examine the need for FAIR data and introduce HASP, while Jyoti will talk through the development of the catalogue, operational best practice and early impact.
Who are Women in Data®?
Women in Data® is a movement and a force for change in the realm of data science and analytics.
Women are hugely under-represented across STEM fields, and the Data industry is no exception – as things stand, male Analysts and Data Scientists outnumber their female colleagues 4 to 1. Addressing this imbalance isn’t just the right thing to do ethically. Data shows that everything from workplace satisfaction, to business profitability significantly improve when an organisation strives for greater diversity and inclusivity.
Women in Data® plays a key role in driving for more accuratere presentation wherever data is being gathered and analysed.
